1. What brought joy to me this summer?
Honestly, spending time with the ones close to me. I also worked a bit more freelancing this year, which was exciting.

2. How have you been using AI in your daily life?
I don't use AI too much in my life. However, sometimes I like to mess around with GAI models such as Google Veo to see some wild and creative content based on my prompts.

3. How have you been using AI in your digital design courses?
I try to stay away from AI during my design process. I will tend to use it as a tool when researching a topic to help guide my conceptual direction. I know some people think it takes away that "critical thinking" aspect of your brain. However, sometimes when you've exhausted all of your creative abilities, I think using another tool can trigger an extra spark in your brain that you normally may never encounter. I still think there's that fine line of using AI that can be considered ethical or not.
4. What surprised me from AI Snake Oil by Arvind Narayanan
The failures, or more accurately, the misinformation of not Generative AI, but Predictive AI. While PAI is merely making predictions based off data, I didn't expect the author to mention "predictive AI often does not work at all." I understand that Generative AI is getting better as it evolves, however; it tends to still get a lot of things wrong depending on how well your prompts are. I expected Predictive AI to be more successful due to it mathematical data it's been given.

5. What I learned from the week 1 lecture on AI Literacy that surprised me?
How similar yet different Predictive AI and Generative AI is. I think the analogy from the lecture explains the difference easily. While they both draw from a dataset, it's intriguing how GAI tries to mimic human cognition by "creating" something new.
6. What are some things you can currently do better than AI?
Anything art or design related...I feel when GAI tries to design art, it takes away that human element that makes it feel soulless. Not only does every piece of art created looks generic, it lacks the creative and individual touches of what makes an artist.
